Days Go By

I've lost track of how many times I have thought to post on my blog, only to be sidetracked by one thing or another, none of it craft stuff.

If it hasn't been BAS or Tax time, it's meeting "requirements" and "red tape" to run a property, then there's the off-farm work to make ends meet.  On the bright side, a full muster means quality time with DS and Grandson J.

It's a big job for a little man and tucker time is a very important part of the day. He is such an awesome little helper.

These babies will soon be reunited with mums.

Muster over and quick trip north (4.5 hour drive) and an overnight catch-up with DD and Grandson P. My parents came along for the trip and were thrilled to visit with this cheeky, happy little man.

I'm afraid there really isn't any sewing/stitching to show. My August Calendar Bear still needs tracing and my August block for A Holly Cottage Christmas is assembled and awaiting some appropriate fabric for the candy canes before I can applique.  I did pick up a crochet rug while mum was here in case I needed a refresher course.

Almost 2 weeks now since we had to say goodbye to one of my fur babies Fleur.  Age and illness dictated that it was the kind although extremely hard thing to do.

R.I.P. sweet girl ....

Flying Friday Nights

Friday nights come flying around so quickly it seems ... a good thing as it's a joy to stitch with virtual friends. Tomorrow night is FNwF @ Cheryll's so do pop over and say hello.

I'm having DS and Grandson J visiting to help with our muster but I hope to manage some stitching.

Tonight's the night ... stitching? or crochet? ... that is the question.

Block by Block

Seems my projects are all progressing block by block at the moment ... at least there is progress ... just no finished flimsy in sight for a while.

Only half way through July ... what else can I work on I wonder?

FNWF Results

This happy chap is right on the money ... Winter actually feels like it has finally arrived this weekend.

Friday night's movie had me so engrossed, my needle was often still, so I stitched some more last night as well. Thanks for your lovely company 😊

A Stitch or Two

Seems sewing/stitching has taken a backseat to everytthing else. I did manage some prep work for a stitich-a-long and stitched this little tweetie last night.

I have also managed to keep up with June Calendar Bear by Michelle Ridgeway.

Cattle work has kept us super busy this past week and the new season babies are arriving ... so so cute at this size.

Late evenings come around quickly when the sun sets earlier for Winter.

Party Time

Yes, it's party time in the Chookshed to celebrate 5 years of  fabric, fun and friendship. I've managed to don my party hat briefly and make some prep time happen towards my A Holly Cottage Christmas stitch-a-long quilt.

With chores done yesterday I was about to start cutting into these lovelies.

Until Mr C requested help with one of the bore pumps. Then it was time to head into town for the annual show and Grandson J came home with us afterwards. So today when Pa and J went to check the molasses tubs, out came the iron, cutting mat, rulers and cutter.

Finished just in time to get smoko. All base fabric squares, sashes, first and outer borders and binding cut ready. Waiting now till the spare bed is spare once more so I can lay them all out for a look see.

Rustic scones for smoko.

Make your way through the balloons and streamers to see who else was at Chooky's party.  http://chookyblue.blogspot.com.au

A Beary Nice Day

Yesterday was a lovely relaxed day spent with this beary huggable mumma and her two cuddly cubs ...

Together with her Bear friends in Michelle's Calendar Bears.

Of course yesterday being Mother's Day, a chocolate mud treat was the order of the afternoon ... yummmm!

Hmmm, still half of May left. What shall I find to work on at night?

Sewing Happens...Occasionally

Seems to have been a long gap between posts and finished projects...every now and then I manage a flourish of finishes.

First is the best...Little Parker's Farm is done done done

and won first place at our local show on the weekend.

I've had the pattern for these baby change mats since August last year...finally two finished and off to DD and DIL.

Yesterday I still had nothing ready for 1 Xmas Item a Month and it so happened that while rearranging some patterns recently, I found a long ago printed off pattern. Diving into a scrap bag, 8 tissue packet covers found there way into my gift box.

A successful tally for OPAM too. As there are only a few April days left, I best get needle and thread stitching to finish my next Calendar Bear.

Good Weather for Stitching

What does one do when the rain is bucketing down and work is closed? .... Stitch of course.  I finished this stitchery that has been on the go a good while .... High Tea needlecase by Red Brolly

We've been fortunate to receive almost 7 inches of rain without the damage .... dams and creeks have overflowed and roads are cut so we'll just sit put for a bit .... remember if its  flooded, forget it!  Our emergency services are stretched helping those who are in real need, not those who only think they know best.

What a Difference!

What a difference some nice rain can make. From worrying about water for the livestock, to a beautiful reflection in the water's surface. Grass is starting to come through so the cattle can get a reasonable mouthful.

Now sitting here, torn between worry for those in the path of Cyclone Debbie and hoping she brings some good rain our way to run the creeks, fill the waterholes and top the dams. Stay safe xx

As March comes to the end, I have met 2 deadlines. First is my stitchery block

Calendar Bears by Michelle Ridgeway

Next is a placemat/coaster set for my 1 Xmas Item ... straight to the giftbox.

March has been filled with visits to and from loved ones, special moments and cuddles with our grandsons, and a welcome to a sweet baby girl (niece). Throw in a few birthdays and this month has flashed by.

Next on my to do list :-  bind Little P's Farm

Getting Close to a Finish

Off to the quilter tomorrow ...

We received a beautiful 63mm (2 1/2 inches) of rain Tuesday evening ... fingers crossed for some more. Coming to the end of school term is always a weary time too ... and my messy house begins to show it ... 2 weeks to go.

Not Today

Hot ... dry ... no inspiration for sewing.

Forecast says maybe a couple inches at the end of the week ... that will be a nice change ... if it happens.

EDIT:  Even that has been reduced. On the plus side just read that our local council is one of 7 more added to the Drought Declared list.

FNSI Report

Almost too hot and sticky to feel like anything much but this sweet little bear was calling out to be finished.

Together with her January friend.  Head over to Sugarlane-Designs (FNSI tab on sidebar) to see which other friends joined the night.

FNSI, OPAM 2017

Back to sliding in at the last minute ... better late than never they say.

Friday night's just a few hours away and it's time to join in with Wendy and friends for a Sew-In. Thinking this might be the night to try the microwave chocolate mug cake packet mix I picked up :)

I am also hoping I haven't left it too late to join once more with Peg and Kris for OPAM 2017. Always good inspiration to get a wriggle on and make a finish.

Every Farmer Needs A Hat

Long time since I've done sewing of the dressmaking kind ... especially hats. Grandson Parker can keep cool on his walks with this one.

The animals are all happy on the farm ...

Miss Piggy  -  Block 10 of 12

Clara Chook  -  Block 11 of 12

Hippity Hop  -  Block 12 of 12

All living in harmony and awaiting borders.

A farmer's work is never done ... from break of day till setting sun.
